'Naturaleza Taina'
Woodcut ~ Grabado en madera
Image size/tamano del imagen: 5"x3" / 12.5cm x 7.5cm
Edition: 75

Again, a Nibblefest offering on eBay. The images used in this woodcut are taken from Puerto Rican petroglyphs done by Taino Indians. They represent the sun, a snail, two birds and two frogs (our beloved tiny, extremely noisy coquis).

'Coqui' 1/1
Monotype with woodcut frog/
Monotipo con grabado de madera de coqui
Size: 3"x5" / Tamano: 8cm x 13 cm

The coqui is a little Puerto Rican frog which sings as soon as the sun goes down or whenever it begins to rain. Thousands sing at night and most visitors mistake their chirping for tropical bird calls.

Sunset from our porch is always spectacular. The house faces east toward the island of Culebra and the U.S. Virgin Islands, so we never see the sun actually set... but we almost always have a colorful light show on the clouds as the evening begins and the coquis begin their crazy chirping.

I cut a little 3"x2.5" all-shina block but, upon proofing it, decided it was a little boring. So I tore it up a bit and mounted the little scrap onto an experimental watercolor I was going to toss. I rather like the results, a little ACEO woodcut/watercolor/collage (below). I still haven't decided how to salvage the 'el coqui' print... probably an exotic paper would improve it.

Veremos...
