I have an update on 'The Boat'... An artist friend from Wet Canvas.com checked with a Tunisian friend and he says the translation is:

God Keep the devil away from me. In the name of God, the merciful, the mercy which opens the doors. You are the best one to open them.

For those of you in the Baren Exchange 43, you may update it if you wish.

Same ink and different paper…

I just printed this 6”x6” woodcut of some Arabic calligraphy. It’s from a tourist tile I’ve had since my Jordan days and it reads 'ahlan-wa-sahlan' or 'welcome'. I used colored mulberry sheets and, because I was using darker paper, I used white titanium oil-based ink. I thought about re-inking the wood to get a more solid white but then decided I liked the way the white was affected by the paper showing through...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the black sheet it looks silver… en la hoja negra parece plateada…
on the purple it looks lavender… en purpura parece lavenda
on the mustard it looks golden… en mostaza parece dorada
on the red it looks pink... en roja parece rosada
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
