'Nitrogen', woodcut using Graphic Chemical process black on kozo paper/'Nitrogeno', grabado en madera con tinta Graphic Chemical process black en papel kozo.

'Nitrogen' was my contribution for the 2007 Periodic Table of Elements Printmaking Project. The requirements were a 6" square print using the element's letter and number. Nitrogen is N and 7. In researching I initially wanted to deal with diving (as a former scuba instructor) and the effects on the body of nitrogen under pressure... but discovered nitrogen is found in all living things and thus changed the focus of my print.

'Nitrogeno' fue mi contribucion para el Proyecto de Grabado de la Tabla Periodica de Elementos 2007. Los requisitos era un grabado tamano 15cm cuadrado usando la letra y el numero del elemento. Nitrogeno es N y 7. Inicialmente quise un tema que trataba de buzear (como soy maestra de buzeo jubilada) y los efectos de nitrogeno baja presion en el cuerpo... pero descubri que el nitrogeno esta presente en todo que vive y entonces cambie el foco de mi grabado.

this is gorgeous! I love the balance of black and white and the way you've woven the elements together :)

Thanks, Vivien... It was a challenge but I wanted to keep it black and white because the surrounding elements on the chart were mostly in color.

I love this! I hope you are going to do all the letters. I am looking for an "M" - hint hint!

That would make a great series, doing all the letters of the alphabet...Diane this is so creative and looks great!!

Annie... I was pleased with how this one came out. Originally I wanted to do something with the effect of nitrogen on the body under pressure (thinking of my days as a PADI scuba master instructor), but I just couldn't reconcile the narrowness of that with how huge nitrogen is.

DRB... I am thrilled to be involved in this project. All the prints are gorgeous!

Anita and Lynnie... Until you mentioned 'alphabet' I hadn't considered that... but my N is done! Now only another few letters to go...
