"Emerging from the Gray"
Oil Study ~ June/Junio 2008
10"x10" canvas

Another month and another eBay Nibblefest Art Contest entry. I've been spending some time life drawing lately and, rather than working in charcoal or pencil, I went right to the canvas. This was an hour-long study on a grayed canvas. The grayed canvas helps establish middle values.
Available for bid here.

Very nice figure study Diane. Especially like your colour palette. Which pigments were you using for the skin tones?

Rick... Thanks! I am not sure of exactly what I used but I squeezed out flake white, cadmium yellow, cadmium orange, quinacridone magenta, cerulean blue, French ultramarine, and burnt sienna. I know for a fact I used the white, orange, blues and sienna but was too much in 'zen mode' when I was working.

From my printmaking background I tend to go yellow, magenta, cerulean with a white but I'm not too careful of which ones I pick out of my paintbox.

I love your blog, and this study in particular is my favorite.
