Early last spring I took photographs of Canadian geese at Tingley Beach park in Albuquerque. I knew I wanted to do a woodcut but couldn't think of how to use it. The WetCanvas.com Printmaking Forum had a Christmas card print exchange and I finally came up with an idea. Using the old 'Christmas is Coming' song as text, I printed on holiday wrapping tissue, cropped it and pasted it onto heavy card stock. Below are some of them ...

En la primavera pasado tome fotos de gansos canadienses en el parque Tingley Beach en Albuquerque. Sabia que queria hacer un grabado en madera pero no podia imaginar como incorporarlo. El foro de grabado de WetCanvas.com tenia un intercambio de grabados Navidenos y al fin tenia un idea. This works fantastically well - the paper just makes it even more special - what a great idea.
Thanks, Vivien... It was fun. The only tricky part was pasting the paper down. Because it's so lightweight the paper would curl up on itself so that I had a goodly amount of paste on my fingers. I had to wash my hands about every fourth card!
These are wonderful! I'll bet the pasting was tricky. What did you use for paste?
Annie: I used Avery Pemanent Glue Stick. It's supposed to be acid-free and photo safe... plus I figure no one is going to keep these forever!
By the way, I'm loving your Bethlehem piece. I can't wait to see the finished work!
I love the goose, Diane! Great idea to print on the festive paper, too. Sometimes I use "Yes" paste for paper gluing; the new version is supposed to be acid-free. It works without curling even very thin papers.
P.S. Don't count on us not keeping your print forever!
